Glossary of Terms

Eigensystem Realization Algorithm (ERA): The ERA method is a time-domain system identification method that uses the impulse-response function to determine the modal characteristics of the structure (damped natural frequencies, damping ratios mode shapes, modal participation factors, EMAC values and the matrices which define the state-space model of the structure: A, B and C)

Natural Excitation Technique (NExT): NExT is a method to determine the modal parameters of a system by analyzing the cross-correlation functions.

Stochastic Damage Locating Vector (SDLV): SDLV is a damage detection algorithm that, as opposed to the damage locating vector (DLV) method that requires input (excitation) information, can locate damage from stochastic realization results using only output measurements. More detailed information can be found in 'Flexibility-Based Damage Localization from Stochastic Realization Results' by Bernal (2006).
